A block board is a row of softwood battens sandwiched between veneer faces, and everything depends on those battens. Oscar Ply uses kiln seasoned softwood, machined square and laid edge to edge with no gaps, then bonded between hardwood face veneers under heat and pressure. Unseasoned or loosely laid battens are why a cheap board develops ridges through the laminate within a year and why a wardrobe shutter stops closing square.
West Bengal conditions punish a weak board. You should see battens packed tight with no gaps between them. Visible spaces in the core are where a board starts to dip, and laminate will not hide them.
Green or unseasoned battens shrink after the board is laminated, which is what pushes visible ridges through a finished shutter within a year.
A thin face veneer telegraphs every batten joint once laminate is pressed on. Ask what the face thickness is, not just the board thickness.
Hold it at eye level and look down the length. A calibrated, wide belt sanded board is flat and even, which is the whole point of buying block board.
A softwood batten core is exactly what termites look for. Vacuum pressure treatment carries preservative right through; brushed treatment does not.

Plywood is cross bonded veneer layers all the way through. Block board has a core of softwood battens laid edge to edge between two veneer faces. That makes block board lighter and much better at resisting sag across a long span, which is why wardrobe shutters, shelves and door panels are usually block board while kitchen carcasses are plywood.
19mm for a standard shutter and 25mm for a full height 7 ft shutter or a door panel. Thinner than that and a tall shutter will bow over time no matter how good the core is.
MR grade is right for bedroom wardrobes, partitions and dry interior furniture. BWP grade is worth the difference almost anywhere in Kolkata, Howrah or Haldia, because the delta air stays damp for most of the year, because the bond survives constant humidity.
