A hollow core door is a frame with cardboard honeycomb inside and a thin face either side. It is light, it sounds empty when you knock it, and the lock rail is the only place that will hold a handle. Oscar Ply builds solid core doors instead: a seasoned hardwood frame, a packed batten core through the full thickness, plywood faces bonded under heat and pressure, and hardwood lipping on all four edges so the door can be trimmed on site without opening up.
Gujarat makes that difference show up fast. Salt laden air along the Kutch and Saurashtra coast at Kandla, Jamnagar and Bhuj works into an unsealed bottom rail, while long dry summers at Ahmedabad and Surendranagar shrink a badly seasoned frame until the gaps open. A solid core door is heavy and sounds dull when you knock anywhere on the face. A hollow core door is light and rings empty between the rails.
Many cheap doors are lipped on two edges only. Without lipping top and bottom, water wicks into the core and the door cannot be trimmed on site.
The lock rail must be wide enough to take a mortice lock without hitting the core. Ask where it sits before the carpenter cuts the mortice.
Set the door on edge and look along the face. It should be dead flat and square at the corners, because a twisted shutter never hangs right.
A door frame and batten core are exactly what termites look for. Vacuum pressure treatment carries preservative right through; brushed treatment does not.
Buying direct removes the trading margin, which matters on a 400 door order, and gives you one point of accountability if sizes come wrong.

BWP grade, 30mm or 32mm. A bathroom door takes steam and splashing every day, and an MR grade door swells at the bottom rail within a few years. The same applies to kitchen, utility and balcony openings. On the Saurashtra and Kutch coast the bottom rail is where doors fail first, so check it is lipped and sealed.
