MR Grade
Commercial Plywood
Versatile commercial plywood, perfect for all construction needs, built on the same hardwood core for dry interior furniture and partitions.
View ProductOscar Ply manufactures full hardwood core plywood at its Raebareli plant, composed edge to edge with no core gaps and available in MR, BWR and BWP grades, and supplies dealers, carpenters and furniture units across Jharkhand.
Two sheets can sit side by side in a showroom, carry the same grade stamp and the same clean face veneer, and behave completely differently once a carpenter cuts into them. What separates them is the core. Hardwood core plywood is heavier, denser and far better at holding a screw than a poplar or mixed core sheet of the same thickness, and that is the whole argument for it. It is not a grade, it is a species choice, and no amount of laminate changes what is inside.
Oscar Ply composes its hardwood cores edge to edge with no gaps, presses them with undiluted phenol formaldehyde and vacuum pressure treats every sheet against termites and borers. Across Jharkhand it goes where panels carry weight or take repeated fixing: plant township furniture at Bokaro and Jamshedpur that changes hands every few years, shop fit outs in Ranchi, and hostel and institutional work that takes daily rough use.
The same hardwood core runs through the range. What changes is the bond, the thickness and what you build with it.

800+ Density
Durable plywood for concrete formwork, ideal for repeated use on construction sites, where core density is what stops a panel bellying.

View ProductAnywhere a panel carries weight or takes a screw repeatedly. For a back panel or a false ceiling, a lighter core is fine.
Book shelves, storage lofts and pantry racks that carry real weight, where a soft core sags in the middle within a couple of years.
Wardrobe shutters, tall units and anything on soft close hinges, where the screw has to hold through thousands of open and close cycles.
Base units carrying a stone counter and drawer runners that get pulled daily, the single hardest test of screw holding in a home.
Display units and counters in Ranchi and Jamshedpur that are dismantled and rebuilt every few seasons, refixing into the same holes.
School, hostel and hospital furniture that takes daily rough use from people who did not pay for it and will not be gentle.
Shuttering panels and site carpentry, where 800 plus kg density is what keeps a sheet flat under the weight of wet concrete.
Core species, composing and density are what you are actually buying here, so those are the lines to compare. Ask any supplier for the same list, and specifically ask what the core is made of rather than what the face looks like.

Four differences you will notice on site, and one of them only shows up years later.
Dense timber grips the thread along its whole length. In a soft or gappy core the screw bites into very little, and a loaded hinge works loose.
Stiffness rises sharply with density, so a hardwood shelf carries the same books across the same span without the dip in the middle.
A packed hardwood core routs and drills without tearing out, which is what lets an edge band sit flush instead of riding over a void.
Township quarters change occupants often and every handover means hinges and locks re-screwed. A dense core still grips on the fourth or fifth pass.
An honest comparison. Hardwood is not the right answer for every job, and we will say so when it is not.
| Core | Relative Density | Screw Holding | Where It Is the Right Choice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full hardwood core | Highest | Strongest | Kitchen carcasses, loaded shelves, wardrobe shutters, shop fit outs, formwork. Anything that carries weight or takes repeated fixing. |
| Hardwood and poplar combination | Medium to high | Good | General furniture where some weight saving helps and the budget matters. A sensible middle for bedroom units. |
| Poplar core | Light | Moderate | Large light panels, back panels, false ceiling framework and anywhere weight is the problem rather than load. |
| Eucalyptus core | Medium | Good | Cost sensitive general purpose work. Denser than poplar and lighter on the pocket than full hardwood. |
| Mixed low grade core | Unpredictable | Unreliable | Nothing we would specify. The density changes sheet to sheet, so the carpenter cannot trust any fixing. |
| Hardwood face, soft core | Looks dense, is not | Weak | The one to watch for. It is sold as hardwood ply and only the cut edge gives it away. |

Every one of these takes under a minute at a counter in Ranchi, Jamshedpur or Dhanbad.
Same size, same thickness, one in each hand. Hardwood core is unmistakably heavier, and weight is the one thing a seller cannot talk you out of.
Hardwood core veneers look darker and tighter grained. Pale, soft looking layers under a good face veneer mean you are buying a face, not a core.
Run a screw in near the edge and back it out twice. In a dense core it stays tight. In a soft one the hole widens on the second pass.
Gaps between core veneers mean a screw may land in nothing at all. Zero gap composing is half of what makes a hardwood core worth buying.
Not the grade, not the brand, the species. A supplier who answers straight away is selling hardwood ply. One who talks about the face is not.
For back panels and false ceilings a lighter core is the better buy. A supplier who sells you hardwood for everything is selling, not advising.
Oscar Ply dispatches hardwood core plywood, block boards and doors to dealers, carpenters and furniture units in these cities and the districts around them.

Answers to what contractors, dealers and builders ask us most often before placing a first order.
Oscar Ply is a manufacturer, not a trading brand. Every sheet is produced at our own plant at Kashimpur Baghel, Sultaanpur Road, Dighiya, Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh and dispatched directly to dealers, carpenters and furniture units across Jharkhand.
Hardwood ply describes the core species, not the grade. The core veneers are dense hardwood rather than poplar or a mixed softwood blend, which makes the sheet heavier, stiffer and much better at holding a screw. Grade, MR or BWR or BWP, is a separate question about the glue, and you choose both.
For anything that carries weight or takes repeated fixing, yes. For large light panels, back panels and false ceiling framework, poplar is often the better buy because the weight saving matters more than the extra screw holding. The honest answer depends on the job, and our team will tell you which fits.
Two reasons. A screw grips dense timber along its whole thread, so loaded hinges and drawer runners stay tight for years. And stiffness rises sharply with density, so a shelf of the same thickness carries the same load across the same span without dipping in the middle.
Lift it against another sheet of the same size, then look at the cut edge. Hardwood core veneers are darker and tighter grained, and there should be no gaps between them. A good face veneer over pale soft layers is a face, not a core, and that is the most common substitution.
