Waterproof
BWP Grade Plywood
BWP grade plywood, ideal for waterproof, strong structures, modular kitchens, bathroom vanities and humid coastal interiors.
View ProductOscar Ply manufactures marine grade plywood at its Raebareli plant, built to the IS 710 specification with a zero gap hardwood core and undiluted phenol formaldehyde bonding, and supplies ferry and boat builders, dealers and river projects across Assam.
In India marine plywood means IS 710, and that standard asks for more than a waterproof bond. It sets the species that may go into the core, demands a glue line that survives 72 hours of boiling, and adds a mycological test for resistance to fungal attack, which is what a panel faces when it stays wet for months rather than hours. BWP plywood under IS 303 is an excellent waterproof grade. Marine is the step above it, and the difference is in the core and the testing, not the sticker.
Oscar Ply builds to that specification at its Raebareli plant: selected hardwood veneers composed with zero core gaps, undiluted phenol formaldehyde used neat, a full press cycle and vacuum pressure preservative treatment. Assam has no sea, but it has the Brahmaputra, and marine grade here goes straight to the river: ferry and country boat building at Guwahati, Dibrugarh and Jorhat, ghat and landing structures, and interiors in a climate where nothing dries out all year.
Marine where the panel lives in water, BWP where it only gets wet, MR where it stays dry. We will tell you which you actually need.

View ProductMarine grade costs more than BWP. These are the places that justify it. Elsewhere, BWP is the honest answer.
Decking, seating, cabin joinery and repair panels for Brahmaputra ferries and country boats at Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Jorhat and Dhubri.
Walkways, landing platforms, storage boxes and shelter joinery at river ghats along the Brahmaputra and Barak, wet for most of the year.
Kitchens, vanities and built in furniture across Guwahati and the Barak valley, where humidity is high enough that marine grade is a defensible choice indoors.
Floor panels, side linings and roof boards for bus body builders, where a panel is washed down and rained on for its whole life.
Counters, racks and washdown areas in tea estate factories, fish and food processing units across Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Nagaon.
Pergolas, planter boxes, poolside joinery and signage where the panel lives outside under shelter rather than indoors.
Marine grade is judged on paper, not on appearance, so these are the numbers to compare. We share the test report for the grade and batch you are buying along with the quotation, and we would suggest you ask every supplier for the same.

Four requirements a marine sheet has to meet. Miss any one and it is a BWP panel with a marine sticker.
IS 710 restricts which timbers may be used. A core of mixed low density species may pass a boil test and still rot from the inside in a marine position.
Any void between core veneers holds water permanently in a marine application. Packed, edge to edge composing leaves the water nowhere to sit.
The glue line must survive three days of boiling water with no delamination. A diluted resin passes a quick immersion test and fails this one.
The test marine grade adds over BWP: resistance to fungal attack, which is what destroys a panel that stays wet for months rather than hours.
Both are excellent waterproof grades. This is what the extra money buys, and when it is worth paying.
| Requirement | Marine, IS 710 | BWP, IS 303 | When the Difference Matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Governing standard | IS 710 | IS 303, BWP grade | Only IS 710 can be called marine plywood. Anything else using the word is marketing. |
| Boiling water test | 72 hours, no delamination | 72 hours, no delamination | No difference. This is where most people assume the gap is, and it is not. |
| Fungal resistance test | Required | Not required | The real difference. It matters when a panel stays wet for months, not for hours. |
| Core timber species | Restricted by the standard | Wider range permitted | A marine core will not soften from the inside when water finally reaches it. |
| Core gaps allowed | Effectively none | Tightly limited | A void is a water pocket. Tolerable in a kitchen carcass, not in a hull or a jetty box. |
| Sensible use | Boats, harbours, permanently wet positions | Kitchens, bathrooms, coastal interiors | For a bathroom vanity, BWP is the right call. Paying for marine there buys very little. |

Marine is the most misused word on a plywood counter in Guwahati, Silchar or Dibrugarh. Here is how to check.
Marine plywood is IS 710. BWP is IS 303. If a supplier says marine but quotes IS 303, you are being sold a waterproof sheet at a marine price.
A real marine grade has paperwork covering the boil and the mycological test. Ask for it for the batch you are buying, not a generic certificate from years ago.
Hold a cut edge to the light. Marine grade should show packed, even veneers with no visible voids. A void is a water pocket in a marine position.
Same size, same thickness, side by side. Marine grade is noticeably heavier because the core is denser and fully packed. Weight is hard to fake.
Marine should cost meaningfully more than BWP. If it is priced a few rupees above commercial ply, the word on the sheet is the only marine thing about it.
A supplier who talks you down to BWP for a bathroom is worth keeping. One who sells marine for every job is selling, not advising.
Oscar Ply dispatches marine grade and BWP plywood to boatyards, dealers and coastal projects in these cities and the districts around them.
Not listed above? We appoint dealers in open districts and still deliver project quantities anywhere in Assam. Talk to our team.
Answers to what contractors, dealers and builders ask us most often before placing a first order.
Oscar Ply is a manufacturer, not a trading brand. Every sheet is produced at our own plant at Kashimpur Baghel, Sultaanpur Road, Dighiya, Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh and dispatched directly to boatyards, dealers and project sites across Assam.
Both pass a 72 hour boiling water test, so the bond is not where they differ. Marine grade is governed by IS 710, which also restricts the timber species allowed in the core and adds a mycological test for resistance to fungal attack. That matters when a panel stays wet for months rather than hours, which is the difference between a boat and a bathroom.
Marine grade is defined by IS 710 in India, and our marine plywood is built to that specification. Ask our team for the current certification status and the test report covering the grade and batch you are buying, and we will send it with the quotation. We would say the same about any supplier: do not accept a verbal claim, ask for the paperwork.
Usually not. BWP grade is the right specification for kitchen carcasses, bathroom vanities and coastal interiors, and it is tested to the same 72 hour boil. Marine grade earns its price where a panel lives in or beside water permanently, such as boat building, harbour structures and poolside work.
Yes, and in Assam that means the Brahmaputra. The grade goes to ferry and country boat builders at Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Jorhat and Dhubri. Tell us the thickness, the quantity and whether the panel will be sheathed or coated, and our team will confirm the right grade and sizes.
We appoint stocking dealers and distributors in districts that are currently open, with territory backing and priority dispatch. The Brahmaputra river belt is a natural fit for this grade. Share your city and current business profile and our team will confirm availability.
