Waterproof
BWP Grade Plywood
BWP grade plywood, ideal for waterproof, strong structures, modular kitchens, bathroom vanities and humid coastal interiors.
View ProductOscar Ply manufactures BWP grade waterproof plywood at its Raebareli plant, bonded with undiluted phenol formaldehyde and tested for no delamination after a 72 hour boil, and supplies dealers, carpenters and furniture units across Maharashtra.
No plywood is waterproof the way a tile is. Wood takes up water whatever you do to it. What separates a waterproof grade from an ordinary one is the bond: BWP plywood is pressed with undiluted phenol formaldehyde resin, which keeps holding the veneers together when they are wet, swell and shrink again. An MR sheet in the same place lets go at the glue line, the plies separate, and no amount of laminate on the outside stops it.
That is why the test matters more than the word on the sticker. Our BWP sheets are boiled for 72 hours and checked for delamination, and we will share the result for a grade or batch with the quotation. In Maharashtra it earns its keep: Konkan monsoon humidity across Mumbai, Thane and Ratnagiri never really lets furniture dry out, and a kitchen or bathroom unit built in MR grade starts showing it within a few seasons.
BWP where water reaches, MR where it does not. One manufacturer for both, so a whole job runs on one order.

View ProductSix places where MR grade will fail and BWP will not. Everywhere else, MR is the sensible choice.
The wettest cubic foot in any house. A slow trap leak soaks the base panel for weeks before anyone notices, which is where MR grade gives up first.
Steam, splashing and a floor that gets mopped daily. The bottom 100mm of a vanity takes more water than the rest of the unit combined.
Across Mumbai, Thane and the Konkan belt the air keeps furniture damp for months, so even bedroom units benefit from a BWP bond.
Washing machine platforms, utility storage and semi covered balconies, where monsoon rain blows in sideways for weeks.
Nurse stations, pantry counters and washroom joinery that get wiped down with water several times a day.
Panels that live outdoors through a monsoon before the building is enclosed, where an MR sheet delaminates in one season.
These are the numbers behind the word waterproof. Ask any supplier for the same list, and ask what happens to their sheet after 72 hours in boiling water. We will share our test result for a specific grade or batch along with the quotation.

Four things we control at the plant. A sheet missing any one of them is not waterproof, whatever the sticker says.
Phenol formaldehyde used neat, not thinned to stretch a drum further. Diluted resin passes a quick dip and fails a boil, which is the usual shortcut.
Gaps inside the core hold water and become the first place a panel separates. Packed hardwood veneers leave the water nowhere to sit.
Resin only cures fully at the right heat, pressure and time. Rushing the press is invisible in the showroom and obvious after two monsoons.
A panel that stays damp is exactly what borers and fungus look for, so vacuum pressure treatment is part of what keeps a wet area panel sound.
The three grades sold across Maharashtra, what test each one passes, and where each one gives up.
| Grade | Bond Test It Passes | Holds Up In | Where It Gives Up |
|---|---|---|---|
| MR Grade | Cold water immersion only | Bedrooms, living rooms, dry partitions, false ceiling framework | Anywhere water stands. A slow sink leak will separate the plies within a season or two. |
| BWR Grade | Short hot water cycle | Utility rooms, covered balconies, dining units, occasional splashing | Constant wetting. It buys time over MR, but it is not a kitchen or bathroom grade. |
| BWP Grade | 72 hour boil, no delamination | Kitchens, bathroom vanities, coastal interiors, outdoor adjacent furniture | Permanent submersion. No plywood is a boat hull, and nothing survives standing water forever. |
| BWP Block Board | 72 hour boil, no delamination | Wardrobe shutters and long spans in damp and coastal rooms | Small or curved components, where the batten core shows at the cut edge. |
| Shuttering Plywood | 72 hour boil, no delamination | Wet concrete, monsoon pours, site storage before a building is enclosed | Furniture work. It is built for formwork, not for a finished interior face. |
| Unbranded "waterproof" | Usually none that is documented | A showroom display and a quick splash of water | The first real test. If nobody can quote a boil result, treat it as an MR sheet. |

Almost every plywood counter in Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur says waterproof. Here is how to find out.
Take an offcut, boil it for a few hours and let it dry. A genuine BWP sheet stays bonded. An MR sheet sold as waterproof opens at the plies, and that settles the argument.
A manufacturer who actually tests can quote the result. A trading house usually changes the subject or points at the sticker on the sheet.
On a cut edge, phenol formaldehyde shows as a dark line between plies. A pale, barely visible glue line usually means a urea based resin, which is not waterproof.
Hold the cut edge to the light. Gaps between core veneers hold water and are where a wet area panel separates first, whatever the bond is rated at.
BWP resin costs several times what MR resin costs. A sheet priced close to commercial ply is not BWP, no matter what is printed on it.
Buying direct removes the trading margin and gives you someone to call if a panel fails. A rebranded sheet has nobody standing behind it.
Oscar Ply dispatches BWP waterproof plywood, block boards and doors to dealers, carpenters and project sites in these cities and the districts around them.
Not listed above? We appoint dealers in open districts and still deliver project quantities anywhere in Maharashtra. Talk to our team.
Answers to what contractors, dealers and builders ask us most often before placing a first order.
Oscar Ply is a manufacturer, not a trading brand. Every BWP sheet is produced at our own plant at Kashimpur Baghel, Sultaanpur Road, Dighiya, Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh and dispatched directly to dealers, carpenters and project sites across Maharashtra.
Not in the sense that tile or metal is. Wood absorbs water whatever grade it is. What BWP guarantees is that the bond holds when the panel gets wet, swells and dries again, which is what actually destroys ordinary plywood. Keep edges sealed and BWP will outlast MR many times over in a wet area.
MR is moisture resistant and tested only in cold water, so it suits dry interiors. BWR handles a short hot water cycle and occasional splashing. BWP is boiling waterproof, tested for no delamination after 72 hours in boiling water, and it is the grade for kitchens, bathrooms and coastal interiors.
Boil an offcut for a few hours and let it dry. A genuine BWP sheet stays bonded; an MR sheet sold as waterproof opens at the plies. You can also ask the supplier to quote their 72 hour boil result, and look at the glue line on a cut edge, which should be a visible dark line.
It handles outdoor adjacent and semi covered positions such as balconies, utility areas and site work, provided every cut edge is sealed. For anything in permanent direct rain or standing water, tell us the application and our team will advise honestly whether plywood is the right material at all. In Mumbai, where monsoon rain comes in sideways onto a covered balcony, treat a semi covered position as an outdoor one.
